Career as a Priest and Archbishop
Oscar Romero and his family were Roman Cathloic and in 1930 a mass opened his mind and was talking about being a Priest at the age of 13 years old. He went to San Mignel which was 7 hours on horse back for training to become a Priest. Because of his efforts he was sent to a bigger seminary in the captal San Salvador. on the next part of his training he was sent to Rome to study and returned back to El Salvador in 1943 as a Priest at the age of 26 yaers old.
His responsibility was a paish Priest in the mountains called Anamoros. There he comfort people, shelter the homeless, listen to the people's problems and helped them about it. He was them choosened to be the acting personal assistant them to a Bishop in San Miguel still at the age of 23 years old. But when his father died his mother moved to where he lived. Them moved to San Salvador to be the SSecretary-Gerenal of the National Bishop's Conference. Next he was the auxiliary (assistant) Bishop.
On February 23, 1977, he was appointed Archbishop of San Salvador. His appointment was met with surprise, dismay.
